Recently, the Environmental Development Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment released the "Collection of Advanced and Applicable Technologies for 'Zero-Waste City' Construction (Third Batch)" list. A total of 33 technologies passed the review, and "CGAS Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal Gasification Technology for Low-Grade and Low-Rank Coal" by ZHGAS was successfully included.
The CGAS Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal Gasification Technology is an efficient and clean coal gasification technology developed by the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), after over ten years of dedicated research, based on circulating fluidized bed combustion technology. The industrialization project of this technology was selected for the "Hongguang Special Project," a key special project for the transfer and commercialization of scientific and technological achievements by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. As the industrialization platform for the "Industrialization of Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal Gasification Technology" within this special project, CAS Coal Gasification has, since its establishment, been dedicated to the industrial application of CGAS Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal Gasification Technology. This technology boasts core advantages such as strong adaptability to various coal types, low energy consumption and cost, high overall energy efficiency, low "three wastes" emissions, and high technical reliability. The accompanying residue carbon treatment technology further enhances the carbon conversion rate and energy efficiency of the coal gasification system by utilizing unburned carbon in fly ash through combustion or molten gasification, effectively achieving clean, efficient, and cascade utilization of coal.
Previously, the Environmental Development Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment organized an evaluation meeting for "CGAS Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal Gasification Technology" at Xinjiang Yihua Chemical Co., Ltd. The expert evaluation panel conducted a comprehensive and multi-dimensional professional technical review of the CGAS circulating fluidized bed coal gasification technology through on-site project inspections, listening to technical reports, reviewing relevant materials, questioning, and discussion. The evaluation committee concluded that: this technology does not produce pollutants such as tar and phenol during the production process; wastewater, after meeting discharge standards through treatment, is recycled without external discharge; fly ash, slag, and other by-products can all be comprehensively utilized; and the plant area is essentially odorless, qualifying it as an advanced clean production technology. This technology has been successfully applied in fields such as synthesis gas and industrial fuel gas, forming a scaled market with promising application prospects. The technology achieves efficient and stable gasification of low-grade and low-rank coal, aligning with relevant national policies for modern coal chemical industry and clean production. Key technologies developed, such as temperature zoning control for high ash and high carbon concentration areas within the furnace, flow field and reaction regulation for circulating fluidized bed gasifiers, temperature zone matching and wall temperature control for waste heat recovery systems, and slag discharge pipe air seal anti-slagging applicable to circulating fluidized bed gasifiers, are innovative both domestically and internationally.
As of now, ZHGAS has successfully commercialized the CGAS circulating fluidized bed coal gasification technology in industrial fields such as coal-to-syngas and coal-to-clean gas. It has completed a series of high-quality demonstration projects that yield substantial economic, social, and environmental benefits. The CGAS circulating fluidized bed coal gasification technology has been successfully applied to various coal types, including high-moisture lignite, Zhundong high-alkali coal, high-ash bituminous coal, and low-reactivity anthracite, with its broad applicability across coal types validated through engineering projects. In the future, ZHGAS will continue to promote the application of CGAS circulating fluidized bed coal gasification technology in various sectors, leading technological innovation in the industry, providing enterprises with clean energy and feedstock gas solutions, and contributing to the high-quality development of the coal chemical and environmental protection industries.
