The CGAS Technology Research Team from the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics was honored with the 2020 CAS Outstanding Science and Technology Achievement Award. CAS Hefei Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as ZHGAS), Yu Kuangshi, General Manager and Meng Guangjun, Deputy General Manager, were recognized as key contributors to the team.

As the industrialization platform for the CAS Hongguang Initiative project “Industrialization of CGAS Technology”, ZHGAS focuses on the commercialization and engineering application of CFB technology. To date, ZHGAS has delivered landmark projects including:

  • Jiangsu Delong Clean Coal Gas Project

  • Xiamen Xiangsheng CGAS-CFB Oxygen-Enriched Gasification Project

  • Guizhou Hongsheng Synthetic Ammonia Fixed Bed Retrofit Project (CGAS-CFB system using anthracite)

  • Xinjiang Yihua Coal Gasification Facility Project (CGAS-CFB system for high-alkali coal)

These projects have advanced the clean, efficient utilization of anthracite and high-alkali coal, overcoming traditional coal gasification limitations. They produce high-quality syngas while significantly improving system energy efficiency, reducing wastewater emissions, and eliminating hazardous byproducts like tar and cyanide, offering groundbreaking solutions for sustainable coal processing.

The CAS Outstanding Science and Technology Achievement Award recognizes CAS-affiliated teams or individuals for major scientific breakthroughs within the past five years. Awarded annually to no more than 10 recipients, each winning team is limited to three key contributors.
